Arm Balance & Inversions

APRIL 18/ 1 PM - 3 PM

From the most basic pose, Chaturanga Dandasana, and floating movements to the most advanced pose, the crow pose, and all other variations derived from it, arm strength and balance are constant and essential components for a good physical practice such as Vinyasa. These same qualities (strength, stability, and balance) also serve as the foundation for another important family of postures for Inversions.

The ability to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, even when the world seems to be turned upside down, is one facet of the path of Yoga. When performed correctly and in the proper sequence, postures have the ability to induce very precise concentration, which translates into full body awareness.

When the body is sufficiently strong and warmed up, this complete body awareness allows the practitioner to invert, placing the legs above the head, either balancing on the head, forearms, or hands.
Maintaining and controlling the entire body is the goal of these postures, with the hope of achieving meditative concentration.

During the 2-hour workshop, the postures will be broken down into precise details and memorable cues so the students will be able to use them safely and appropriately in form and function.

Open Hands Kirtan

Led by Domenic (harmonium) and Amimee (tabla drum)

Open Hands Kirtan is a devotional gathering rooted in the ancient practice of Bhakti Yoga: the path of connection through sound. Through mantras and music, we come together to quiet the mind, open the heart, and share a collective presence.

We offer this space with deep respect for the lineage, culture, and teachings of Kirtan. No singing experience is necessary: this is not a performance, but a welcoming, non-judgmental space for everyone.

Join us every other Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at The Body Shop Yoga.
Next session: APRIL 11.

For more information, follow @open.hands.kirtan

Come as you are and share the experience.
